Welcome to the website of the Caribbean Conference on Crime and Criminal Justice. The conference, hosted by the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, is intended to bring together scholars doing research on crime in the Caribbean and among Caribbean peoples, and all other scholars engaged in current criminological research that might contribute to the development of the discipline.

There have been two Caribbean conferences thus far. The first was held in Barbados in 1998, and the second, in Jamaica at the Mona Campus of the UWI in 2001. They were attended by researchers from Latin America, Europe, North America and the Caribbean.

Objectives
• To share research findings on crime in Caribbean societies and among Caribbean peoples.
• To discuss important criminological issues in both regional and international contexts.
• To explore new issues and new directions for criminological research in the Caribbean.
• To establish a research network among persons and institutions with an interest in Caribbean crime.

The Conference will examine the following broad issues in both regional and international context:
Efforts are being made to compose panels on the following themes:

• Conceptual aspects of the study of crime.
• Regional and international trends in crime.
• The relevance of metropolitan theorising about crime and criminal justice in the Caribbean.
• The relationship between crime and development
• Criminal victimization and victim related issues.
• The need to transform criminal justice systems in the Caribbean/developing world
• Law enforcement: operations, problems and new directions.
• Community crime prevention.
• Private policing.
• The Courts and the adjudication of crime.
• The punishment and treatment of offenders in the correctional system.
• Human rights.
