The UWI Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health (OESH) programme offers professional development in the field of OESH through undergraduate, postgraduate and general interest courses.
These programmes prepare graduates for work in such key areas as:
- Enforcement (to ensure compliance)
- Research
- Consultancy, Technical Service and Entrepreneurship
- Teaching
- Training
- Organizational Systems and Practice
- Policy and Standards Development
Key competency outcomes are:
- recognition of OESH challenges
- evaluation of OESH challenges
- management and control of OESH challenges
- development, design, implementation and management of complex OESH programmes
- provision of high level leadership in research and policy-making
Undergraduate Programme
The Bachelors Programme delivers the knowledge and skills to apply OESH competencies in business enterprises and government agencies. These generalists are able to develop, implement and manage basic programmes and to assist in the provision of training and consultancy services.
Postgraduate Programme
The Masters Programme prepares persons to develop, design, implement and manage complex OESH programmes and systems. Graduates are able to provide consultancy services and education. The Doctoral Programme prepares persons to provide high level leadership in OESH research and policy design, implementation, analysis and evaluation.
Short Courses
Short professional development courses focus on the reduction and prevention of workplace accidents as well as organizational compliance with the anticipated OSH legislative framework.
