It is with great pleasure that I inform you that the Executive
Board of Education International (EI) has designated you as the
recipient of the 2004 EI Albert Shanker Education Award.
The Albert Shanker Education Award is attributed to a teacher or
other education employee in recognition of an outstanding personal
contribution to education. His or her professional action will have
demonstrated that quality education requires quality teachers and
education employees. That professional action will have reflected
a commitment to educational excellence and the promotion of democracy,
social justice and equality through education. The recipient’s
educational action will reflect the ideals and aspirations which
are articulated in Article 2 of the Constitution of Education International
and will be an inspiration to colleagues. In principle the recipient
will be a class room teacher or an education employee working directly
with pupils or students.
The Albert Shanker Education Award will be presented
to you during the EI Awards Dinner, which will take place in the
evening of Sunday 25 July in the framework of EI’s Fourth
World Congress in Porto Alegre, Brazil (22-26 July).
The theme of the Congress is: “Education for Global Progress.”
We anticipate that over 1000 delegates will attend this memorable
event for teachers and education personnel world-wide.
It is therefore with great pleasure that I extend an invitation
to you as a guest of our Congress.
Click the following to access the Agenda
and Program of the Congress. I would be grateful if you could

The EI Staff would be happy to help you organize your trip and
make hotel arrangements and to answer all your questions regarding
our Congress.
EI will pay for your travel to and from Porto Alegre as well as
for your accommodation during your stay.
I hope that you will be able to attend and look forward to hearing
from you.
With best wishes,
Fred van Leeuwen
