HUMN2201 (AR22A): LITERATURE AND IDEAS IN THE CARIBBEAN (3 credits, Semester 2)

This course focuses on the selected issues in writing from across the Caribbean, including the following topics (with emphasis which may vary from time to time): the treatment of history, nationalism, gender concerns, neo-colonialism, anti-imperialism and Marxism, religion, choice of language, narrative technique, orature, magic realism, Caribbean literature as counter-discourse.
PRE-REQUISITE : ‘A' level literature or one literature course from Department of Modern languages and Literatures OR Literatures in English
