More than 3000 scheduled to graduate from UWI Mona this weekend

More than 3000 students of the University of the West Indies will graduate in four Ceremonies scheduled for Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2 at The UWI Mona.  The Presentation of Graduates will be hosted at the Graduation Tent located on the lawns of the Senate Building.
 
On Friday November 1, the first ceremony will start at 10:00 a.m. with graduates from the Faculty of Science & Technology, the Faculty of Humanities & Education and the Institute for Gender & Development Studies (IGDS). Guest speaker will be Honorary Graduands, Janet Rolle’, Media & Marketing Executive and former Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for CNN Worldwide. The Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) will be conferred on Ms Rollé as well as Professor Emeritus Barry Higman.
 
At 5:30 p.m., the Faculty of Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Law and the Engineering Department will present their Graduates.  Guest speaker at this ceremony will be Mr Noel Dexter, Consultant in Choral Music, composer and musical director who will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (DLitt).
 
On Saturday November 2, ceremonies are reserved for Graduates of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The morning session at 10:00 a.m. will present all Social Sciences Graduates with the exception of those from the Mona School of Business and Management; the evening session at 5:30 p.m. will present Graduates of the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) only. 
 
Valerie Facey, Founder and director of The Mill Press is scheduled to speak at the Saturday morning Graduation when the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters will be conferred on her.
 
Mr. R. Danny Williams, Jamaican entrepreneur and philanthropist will address MSBM graduates on Saturday evening, when he will also receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws.
 
Chancellor of The University of the West Indies, Sir George Alleyne, Vice Chancellor, Professor Nigel Harris and newly inducted Principal of the UWI Mona campus, Professor Archibald McDonald will also participate.
 
The 2013 Valedictorians are Janelle David of the Faculty of Humanities & Education, Olivia Derrett of the Faculty of Law and Keva Taylor and Shoyea-Gaye Grant of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
 
The Graduating Class of 2013 joins a global family of more than 120,000 UWI graduates who serve with distinction in almost every field.
