YOU ARE INVITED TO: Passion for Paint - Paintings by Mike Stanley
On Tuesday September 20th 2016, an exhibition of paintings by British born artist Mike Stanley will be opened at 6.00pm at the Regional Headquarters Building of the University of The West Indies Mona Campus, Kingston.
Stanley was born in Wales, United Kingdom in 1944. Now a Jamaican citizen, he has been involved with the Jamaica art community for nearly thirty years both as an artist as well as an art educator. He attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in painting (1967) from the Chelsea School of Art, London and a diploma in Art Education (1968) from the London University. Stanley's art work has been described as "... (coming) out of the European reaction to the abstract impressionist period after the war." Mike is known for producing canvasses that utilise paint through a variety of gestural marks, emotive colours and paint layers of varying thicknesses.
A recent development in his work is an allusion to the human figure, often in a tropical context. The body of work to be exhibited a recent works, produced over the last three years. The exhibition closes on October 4.
Guest speaker at the opening of the exhibition will be Anne Marie Bonner, former Executive Director of the Institute of Jamaica.
