A coral reef biologist, Dr. Mendes has conducted several studies on the coral reef
systems around the island. Her research has ranged from coral density banding in
Montastraea annularis to the biological effects of bleaching events.
Currently she is investigating coral reef restoration and the protection of coastal
habitats.
