Through the Mona Information Literacy Unit (MILU)
the Library assists in developing competencies needed to
be Information literate through instruction
sessions to students and staff.
Orientation Sessions/Tours
MILU offers orientation sessions/tours to new students
and staff. Orientation Tours are usually scheduled during
the first two weeks of Semester 1 and these begin in the Multifunctional
Room. No prior registration is needed for these tours. Students
should check the tour schedules at the Main and Branch Libraries. Instruction Sessions (In Class) Open
Sessions for students include
- Effective library research
- Using the OPAC
- Introduction to the Web
- Online search strategies
- Locating periodical articles via databases
Students are encouraged to book in advance for
these sessions as soon as
Instruction Session Schedules are posted.
Classes are usually limited to 20 students.
Customised Sessions are also offered for specific groups/
subject areas Please contact MILU to arrange a course
- Finding, evaluating and using print and electronic information
resources in specific subject areas
- Online search strategies
- Citation Styles
- The Library invites Faculty to request sessions for their
classes at least 2 weeks in advance
Workshops for Staff
Instruction workshops for Faculty are usually
scheduled in Semester 2 and may include sessions on
e xploiting online resources including databases.
Special workshops related to the Internet, OPAC,
specific databases or other resources may be arranged for
Faculty and Instructors on request.
