A PURPLE VISION FOR P.E.A.C.E
By Tarik T.A. Weekes (P.E.A.C.E President 2006–2007)
It was Manzini, an Italian philosopher and social commentator who once said that; "a multinational is not a body politic but a monster incapable of life."
At the time Manzini was speaking about the suppression of individual freedoms that would have allowed the full potential of human resources to be realized.
I do not believe that the A. Z Preston Hall is a multinational and even more not a monster. But I do believe that this great hall is a bastion, a community that is home to burning energies and remarkable skill and talent. With this belief I acknowledge the effort of the Preston Entertainment and Cultural Ensemble ( P.E. A.C..E) which has for the past ten years sought to evoke and fuel the innate cultural qualities of Prestonites present and gone.
At such an important juncture in this geographical space we call the Caribbean, where increasing pressure from external influences has us seething for avenues to develop our human resource; the arts have to emerge as that vehicle where Caribbean people can identify with their identity to produce not only what is tangible but that which is intangible. In this eleventh year of P.E.A.C.E I welcome you to not only Aston Z. Preston Hall, but to be part of the chronicles of a great organization that is totally about you and Caribbean, cultural and individual expression, right here at Mona.
