WHAT IS SOCIO - LINGUISTICS?

Socio-linguistics involves the study of the links between language and society, and the way we use language in different social situations. It covers the wide variety of forms of speech used by members of different social groups in society, as well as the difference in the way men and women speak to one another. Socio - linguists are also interested in the fact that when someone speaks, we can often tell the age, sex and social class, from the way they speak.
