COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course you will be able to:
1. Provide a definition of adaptive instruction and to measure this against issues related to the teacher, the learner and the content of instruction
2. Explore issues relating to instructional assessment and their implications for working with learners in difficulty
3. Evaluate a number of instructional strategies/methods and their suitability for the learner in difficulty
4. Develop a thematic unit

ED 27L :THE LEARNER IN DIFFICULTY: AN INTRODUCTION

 

This course is designed to introduce you to learners in difficulty who are in regular classroom. These students are usually labeled within the Caribbean as ‘remedial, slow learners, below grade level’ etc. by class teachers.

 

ED 37N: ADAPTIVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE LEARNER IN DIFFICULTY. PART B

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is aimed at helping participants acquire increased proficiency in classroom activity as intervention. A follow-up to Part A, it represents a more comprehensive range of theories, principles and practice.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course you will be able to:

1. Critically examine the theories which form the foundation of the module in this course
2. Incorporate techniques of reflective teaching and formative assessment within your teaching practice
3. Reflect on your teaching performance through the use of a journal
4. Write a report on a child which investigates a specific learning problem

 

ED 37Q:The Learner in Difficulty: Issues and Trends in Caribbean Classrooms

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course examines local issues and trends affecting the management of the learner in difficulty. It also facilitates comparison between the local/regional situation and those in developed and other developing countries in order to provide opportunities to identify and discuss approaches that may foster improvement locally.

The course is divided into 4 modules and there are prescribed and recommended readings. Single copies of some of the readings are in the ED 37Q folder in the Documentation Centre. You will be responsible for locating most of the required readings.
